Mr. Noyes – Passion, Innovation, and Leadership

Mr. Steven Noyes has been an integral part of The Village School of Naples community since 2005, bringing with him a wealth of experience and passion for education. With a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Mr. Noyes embarked on his teaching journey with a singular goal in mind: to make a positive difference in the lives of children. "I wanted to inspire students to be the best version of themselves in whatever they are doing and want to do in life," he shares.

At TVS, Mr. Noyes teaches intermediate Math, a subject he is deeply passionate about. "I have a passion for anything Math, but I also love incorporating other areas of study into Math lessons when possible," he says. His teaching approach reflects his belief in the phrase, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." Through his effort and performance, Mr. Noyes strives to inspire his students to aim for greatness in all they do.

"I like to use cooperative learning, collaboration, technology, and active learning in our Math lessons."

In the classroom, Mr. Noyes employs a variety of strategies to engage and inspire his students. By integrating different approaches, Mr. Noyes ensures his students have opportunities to explore and learn in diverse and creative ways. He believes that every student can rise to greatness and works to create an environment where they feel supported and motivated to succeed.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Noyes is deeply involved in the broader school community. He was the first basketball coach for the Lower School girls and boys teams and has coached basketball for many years. His leadership extends to being the Singapore Math liaison for the Lower School, coordinating Math Knight, and overseeing the 4th and 5th Grade Safety Patrol. Mr. Noyes also participates in various events, from concerts to sporting events, showing his support for his students’ achievements beyond academics. In addition, he is an active member of the Lower School Math Focus Group and other school wide math initiatives through which he continually seeks ways to improve the curriculum for the benefit of his students.

Beyond his love for teaching, Mr. Noyes has a passion for Boston sports teams and enjoys collecting sports memorabilia, though he admits his collection has slowed down in recent years. He treasures time spent with his wife, whether it’s following sports or simply enjoying each other's company. These personal interests often help him connect with students, creating common ground and deepening his relationships with them.

Among his most memorable moments at TVS are the times when his students have achieved great success. A highlight of his career was winning a national writing contest with his students, which brought the school national recognition and an author visit. He also takes great pride in coaching the first basketball team at TVS to win a conference championship. Mr. Noyes was humbled to receive the Golden Halo Award for Christian schools in Southwest Florida, a recognition of his dedication to education and his students.

Mr. Noyes firmly believes that education goes far beyond test scores. "A student's mental and emotional health, ability to persevere, and relationships with others are just a few of those important areas beyond academics," he notes. His hope is to inspire students to believe in themselves, understand their value, and know they can be successful in life. He wants them to follow their dreams and passions, and to make a positive difference in the world.

Looking to the future, Mr. Noyes is excited about the role technology will play in education. "With the addition of AI and more opportunities for students to have control in their educational choices, technology is huge," he says. He views being a lifelong learner as crucial, not just for students but for teachers as well. Whether through workshops, seminars, or peer collaboration, Mr. Noyes is committed to growing as an educator and bringing new ideas into his classroom.

Thanks to the vast experience he has acquired since first becoming a teacher in 1988, Mr. Noyes continues to inspire students and make a lasting impact on The Village School of Naples community.
