TVS has been recognized as a Platinum member of the Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll for 2023 & 2024. As one of only two schools in Collier County to receive this prestigious recognition, this designation places The Village School in an exclusive group of schools – just 4,570 schools, or 30 percent of all private, public and charter high schools in the United States and Canada, were included on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll. And of those schools, just 886, or 6 percent of eligible high schools, achieved the top Platinum level.

AP Capstone Program Details

  1. Two Core AP Courses:

AP Seminar: Typically taken in 10th or 11th grade, this foundational course focuses on developing critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication skills. Students explore complex issues from multiple perspectives, evaluate sources, and construct evidence-based arguments. Assessments include team projects, individual papers and presentations, and an end-of-course exam.

AP Research: Taken after AP Seminar, this course allows students to delve into a topic of personal interest. They plan and conduct a year-long research investigation culminating in a 4,000–5,000 word thesis paper and an oral defense. There is no traditional exam—scores are based on the final paper and defense.

  1. Additional AP Exams: To earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students must also score a 3 or higher on four additional AP exams of their choosing, taken at any point during high school.

Summary of AP Capstone Diploma Requirements:

  • Score a 3 or higher in AP Seminar

  • Score a 3 or higher in AP Research

  • Score a 3 or higher on four other AP exams
